Internet Newspaper

By Nick Scrimenti

As you can see, our newspaper has changed a lot this year. Obviously, the biggest change is that we have moved the SLS HOT OFF THE PRESS onto the internet.  Much work was put into this edition and many changes were made for the better.

Moving to the internet has a lot of benefits. Saving paper in our school means saving money, and the environment. It is very difficult and expensive to print out a copy of the school newspaper to every student in the school. Much work goes into sending out the newspaper including folding and distributing the newspaper to the teachers. The cost for printing and ink is very expensive and without those costs the school can breathe a sigh of relief.

Another good thing about the internet newspaper is the many pictures. In the past printed pictures have came out blurry and in black and white. In addition, we were very limited on the amount of pictures we can use. On the contrary, now we can have as many pictures as we want in clear, color quality.

In this newspaper, look out for many contests to win.  The more you read, the more contests we have, the more fun it will be.  Listen for contests in the announcements and be sure to read SLS HOT OFF THE PRESS.

In many ways, this is a change for the better. We can have more pictures, save paper, save money, and have awesome contests for dedicated readers. Now all it takes is a simple type and click and you’re there!

Return of the Glass Slipper

This year’s 7th and 8th grade play!

By Madison Konkol and Kaylee Williams

Saint Luke School puts on amazing plays all year round. This year the 7th and 8th graders performed the play called The Return of the Glass Slipper. This play is an adaptation of Cinderella. This means it’s made shorter and more suitable for a middle school play. While the original production is two and a half hours long, this play was only around an hour long. We asked Mrs. Minick for some inside information.

“The Return of the Glass Slipper is like the original Cinderella, but is adapted to a middle school version. It has a more modern dialogue and is easier to sing than the original.” She also had something to say about the similarities. “Most of the characters are the same. We have Cinderella, the prince, the godmother (Harmonia Merrywhether), and most of the rest of the cast are the same.” Mrs. Minick was very pleased with how the play turned out. “Everyone had a part to the play somehow. It was so exciting!” The play was performed on February 5th, so we hope you had a chance to experience The Return of the Glass Slipper!

April Fool’s Day!

By Kaylee Williams and Maddie Konkol

April Fool’s Day, as many people know, comes every year on April 1st. Sometimes people call it All Fool’s Day. This light-hearted tradition is several hundred years old, but even experts don’t know exactly where the holiday originated from. The most common theory about its origination is from France, when the French changed their calendar in the 1500s so that January marked the start of the New Year instead of the beginning of spring like it used to be. This transition traveled slowly around the world and many people in rural areas still celebrated the beginning of the year in spring. These people were then known as April Fools.

April Fool’s Day is celebrated in the United States, England, France, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and Norway. It is a day of practical jokes and fun. In England, the person who gets pranked is proclaimed a ‘noodle’. In France, the one who gets pranked is an ‘April Fish’. In Scotland, you’re an ‘April Gawk’! So prank someone before they prank you!
