New Laptops For the SLS Students

By Kaylee Williams and Madison Konkol

St. Luke School has received 30 brand new laptops! They’re stored in a cart on the second floor and are available daily to grades 4-8; teachers grades K-3 may sign them out, as well. These laptops have provided a great help to teachers and students. Teachers can sign up to receive the number of laptops they need and the day they want them.

These laptops are like having a second, mobile computer lab on the second floor. Students now don’t have to wait to use a single computer in their classroom. The laptops give them the advantage of looking up the information they need to know without waiting their turn.

We could have never received these laptops without the help of generous parents and families. We are very grateful for all of the donations they have given. We appreciate all the help! SLS students love their new laptops!

Catholic Schools Week

                      By Bailey Witherspoon

Every year we have a wonderful tradition - Catholic Schools Week!

Everyday of that week we do something fun and crazy. We also have our annual school volleyball game, when the whole school comes together for a fun filled afternoon. This year it was a blast!

We had an amazing ice cream sundae bar. We give special thanks to the employees from Kohl’s Department Store who served us the ice cream.

Even though Catholic Schools Week is fun, it’s also charitable. We gathered slippers, hats, and gloves for people who are needy.  Catholic schools week is one of the best traditions at St. Luke. Next year can’t come quick enough!

Earthquake in Haiti

By Cassie Zimmer

On Tuesday January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the island nation of Haiti. One of the cities that was hit the worst was Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capitol. Buildings, houses, offices, even orphanages were destroyed. Many people lost everything they owned, and were left to sleep in the streets.

Even before the earthquake, Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. They people lived in small homes, with modest furniture.  They needed help then, and presently need even more. Now, many weeks after the earthquake Haiti is left in ruins. People are sleeping in the streets, with nothing but tarps between them and the road. All of the hospitals are destroyed, so the Red Cross has set up make-shift hospitals in tents. The citizens aren’t getting the medical care they need, and even minor wounds can become serious because of infections.

Haiti may be far away, but there are some ways you can help the Haitians out.  Even your text messages can help! If you text “Haiti” to “90999”   the American Red Cross will donate $10 to the earthquake victims ($10 will be added to your mobile phone bill).  Any donations you can make will help the Haitians out, and will be greatly appreciated.

*Keep the victims of the Earthquake in your prayers!*
