First Grade:

Second Grade:

Please read at least TWO books from the following list

Fourth Grade:

After reading one of the following books over summer vacation, your child will be given the opportunity to take a Reading Counts test within the first week of school. If your child passes the Reading Counts test, he/she will receive 5 points toward the first quarter reading grade.

Fifth Grade:

This summer, the fifth graders will be asked to read one book. The title of this book is The Jacket by Andrew Clements (4 points). The fifth grade teachers will be supplying this book to each student. Please have your student read the book and be prepared to do some activities with the book when they return in September. Since we are supplying the text to each student, we would appreciate it if your student could return the book to us in September. We are also including a list of additional summer reading if you would like your student to read further. All books are on Reading Counts and quizzes may be taken when the students return in the Fall.

Seventh Grade:

Over the summer, you are to read any book of your choice, provided that it has a Reading Counts quiz. This book must have a minimum lexile level of 4.0 and/or the Reading Counts quiz must be worth at least 6 points. It must of course be a book that you haven't read before!

1. You must take the Reading Counts quiz for the book you choose during the first week of school. This may also count towards your September monthly goal.
2. You will be asked to write two paragraphs on the first day of school. The first paragraph will be a short summary of the book. The second paragraph will be your reflection about what you read. It should include the following:

a. Did you enjoy the book? Why or why not?
b. Was there a moral/lesson from the book?
c. Would you recommend this book to others? Why or why not?

This essay will be written in school. Content, spelling and grammer will be considered. You should come prepared to write about your book.
