Fourth Grade Syllabus
Materials:
Due to limited space in the desks, we ask that parents and students adhere to the list of supplies that was made available to them. Please keep “extras” of anything at home; be watchful of when you need to replenish the supply. All textbooks are to be covered. Cloth book covers are acceptable only if they do not break the binding.
Tests/Quizzes/Report Cards:
All tests will be announced in advance. Quizzes will be given periodically to check student understanding of the concepts being presented. These quizzes may or may not be announced in advance. If a student fails a test, please be aware that individual retests will not be given. Tests, quizzes, homework, class participation, effort, and daily classwork are all considered when determining report card grades.
Extra Help/Extra Credit:
Extra help is available upon request-all students need to do is ask! If the teacher suggests extra help sessions, it is up to the student to take advantage of them. No extra credit will be given any student, as we would rather have the students concentrate on the required daily assignments.
Homework Policy:
Some homework assignments will receive points toward final grades. Your child will not know ahead of time which assignments will be checked for a completeness grade. If homework has been completed and effort shown, a student will earn credit. Please keep in mind that I do not grade homework for accuracy, only for completeness. If homework is not turned in, the student will not receive any credit/points. If homework is incomplete or not turned in, a homework slip will be issued to the student for you to sign. That slip must be signed and returned to me the next school day, with the completed homework assignment. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure that you see it and sign it and that it gets back to me. For each day the homework slip is not returned that student will lose a portion of his/her recess. If a child receives 3 homework slips in the same quarter, a demerit will be issued.
Thursday Folders:
Folders will be sent home according to the schedule drawn up by the school office. The folder should be returned the next day. Parents are asked to carefully check the count of papers listed inside the folder. It is suggested that the parents question their child or notify the teacher if the count consistently fails to be correct. Only student work is included in the count- not notes from the office. Parents should also be aware that a two page assignment which has been stapled together counts as two papers in the folder total.
Special Notes:
- Students will be asked to redo any work that is messy, incomplete, or where directions have not been followed.
- All loose-leaf work is to have a proper school heading on it and is to be done in traditional blue or black ink. (The only exception is math where pencil is always used.)
- All questions are expected to be answered in complete sentence format with proper punctuation unless otherwise indicated.
- All assignments are to be done in cursive.
