Have a wonderful summer! Before you know it-it’ll be time to start the next school year!
Summer Reading:
Over the summer, you are to read any book of your choice, provided that it has a Reading Counts quiz. The book must have a minimum lexile level of 4.0 and/or the Reading Counts quiz must be worth at least six points. It must of course be a book that you haven’t read before!
This will be the first literature grade for your eighth grade year. You will be required to complete the following:
- You must take the Reading Counts quiz for the book you chose during the first week of school. This may also count toward your September monthly goal.
- You will be asked to write two paragraphs on the first day of school. The first paragraph will be a short summary of the book. The second paragraph will be your reflection about what you read. It should include the following:
- Did you enjoy the book? Why or why not?
- Was there a moral/lesson from the book?
- Would you recommend the book to others? Why or why not?
This essay will be written in school. Content, spelling and grammar will be considered. You should come prepared to write about your book!
The Reading Counts quiz will count for ten points of the grade, and the essay will count for twenty points.
